The Samajwadi Party’s district office, located in the Town Hall complex in Sitapur, was razed by the administration early Monday morning.
The SP office, built on government land in Sitapur, was demolished after the district administration arrived at the site at 4 am with personnel from five police stations. Four bulldozers brought down the structure in about two hours, and the debris was removed immediately thereafter.

The SP office had been constructed 21 years ago on 2,500 square feet of land. The government land was initially leased to the party. However, the lease was revoked just four months later. Mulayam Singh Yadav was the Chief Minister at the time.
Despite the cancellation of the lease, the SP office continued to operate from the premises. A fortnight ago, the District Magistrate’s Court issued a notice to SP district president Chhatrapal Yadav, directing him to vacate the office by Sunday. The office was vacated 24 hours before the demolition drive.
Municipal officials said, “On January 15, 2005, the then Municipal Council President, Radheshyam Jaiswal, allotted Nazul land in the Town Hall complex for the Samajwadi Party’s district office. The rent was fixed at just Rs 100.”
A hall and two rooms were constructed on the 2,500-square-foot plot. However, the allotment became controversial within a few months. An inquiry revealed irregularities in the allotment process and non-compliance with legal provisions. Consequently, the Municipal Council cancelled the allotment on April 14, 2005.
On June 8, 2025, the District Magistrate’s Court issued a notice to the SP office, directing it to vacate the land. Following this, the process of removing the encroachment began. The demolition was carried out immediately after the notice period expired.
Meanwhile, SP MP from Dhaurahra, Anand Bhadauria, said, “We had a weak legal position regarding the office, but the manner in which the BJP government bulldozed the office early in the morning is something the Samajwadi Party will never forget. The public will surely shatter the BJP’s arrogance, and the party will have to pay the price for this.”
However, Sitapur BJP district president Rajesh Shukla supported the demolition, saying that under the BJP government, the law takes its own course and the administration will act against anyone found violating the rules.
